Mother’s Day is dedicated to honoring our mothers or mother-like people. We celebrate it each year on the second Sunday in May. This gives us time to appreciate everything our mothers have done for us.
Life is Messy
Real life is messy. That is why everyone needs a mom, whether biological or adopted. She will be influential in your life without you realizing it. She is there when you need her and a good shoulder to cry on after a bad day.
The First Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day started in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation naming it the second Sunday in May. It has been celebrated every year since.
Love
Mother’s Day is a day for showing our love and thanks to our mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, and any maternal figures in our lives. Some people celebrate by sending cards, flowers, and gifts to their mothers or taking them out for a special dinner or cooking dinner. A cookout at the park with the family is nice also. Everyone can pitch in and help and have fun in the park. It can also be as simple as just spending time together. Also, don’t forget your elderly neighbor who may be by themself. They may not have children, but they always enjoy the company and even a few flowers from your yard or the local florist. Chocolate is always a winner, also! Wine is a great gift!
So let’s use Mother’s Day to spread love and kindness to all who need it. Always say please and thank you. It goes a long way to make someone’s day a little nicer.
“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” – Meister Eckhart
Poetry for All Moms
Super Mom
Mom, you’re a wonderful mother,
So gentle, yet so strong.
The many ways you show you care
Always make me feel I belong.
You’re patient when I’m foolish;
You give guidance when I ask;
It seems you can do most anything;
You’re the master of every task.
You’re a dependable source of comfort;
You’re my cushion when I fall.
You help in times of trouble;
You support me whenever I call.
I love you more than you know;
You have my total respect.
If I had my choice of mothers,
You’d be the one I’d select!
